Aquarium
I was extremely lucky to discover that on Tuesdays around 2:30 p.m. it’s feeding time at the New York Aquarium. The seals and sea lions were the highlight since they were simultaneously practicing their training while they ate—barking and doing flips out of the water. Meanwhile, in another tank nearby was one distraught sea otter who seemed to realize that the other animals were being fed before it, so it staged a protest by banging one of its toys against the wall of its enclosure repeatedly in a desperate cry for attention. I imagine this is the sea otter equivalent of this (but cross out “chicken dinner” and insert “sea urchins”):
See for yourself!
It’s been over a decade since I last visited the aquarium and I completely forgot how great it is. The coral reef tunnel in the shark exhibit is particularly stunning. And if you ever want to sneak a peek of it from the comfort of your own home, they have a camera of the reef that goes live every day from 10:00 a.m. - 4:00 p.m. I also highly recommend ending your trip with a visit to Nathan’s to complete your perfect Coney Island day.
