Birth Trinity
I visited the Judy Chicago: Herstory exhibit at the New Museum today. I really don’t know much about Chicago’s work outside of The Dinner Party installation at the Brooklyn Museum, of which I’m a huge fan. So walking around and discovering her huge breadth of work was a real pleasure and revealed lots of surprises. I love how much she collaborates with other artists and her clever and playful use of materials were some of my favorite discoveries.
As a sucker for textile arts I immediately had to walk right up to Birth Trinity: Needlepoint 1 and put my nose as close to it as I could without making any of the museum staff nervous. This tapestry absolutely radiates and when you get up close you wish you could reach behind the protective glass to run your hand over the colorful and fat needlepoint stitches. It’s just gorgeous.
