The Quiet Zone

After a sunny and chaotic week in LA and several uncomfortable hours on a Spirit Airlines flight, at the end of the night I just wanted to watch something lighthearted and a little mindless. So, jetlagged and wide awake at 1:00 a.m. back on the east coast, we put on episode 2 of Welcome to Wrexham and wow…it was not what I was expecting.

Usually episodes are mainly silly, with the viewer following Rob McElhenny and Ryan Reynolds’s hijinks as you root for a charming Welsh football team. It’s all very reminiscent of the best ‘90s underdog sports movies: The Mighty Ducks (1 and 2, specifically), Cool Runnings, Major League, etc. Well, this episode of Wrexham, “The Quiet Zone” was all about disability awareness and autism and specifically focused on Wrexham superfan Millie Tipping and Albi, the son of star forward Paul Mullins. Dear reader, I may have shed a few tears while watching this beautifully empathetic episode that spotlights some amazing people and caught me completely off guard.
